Pendant que la France connaissait une forte période de crise en mai 1968, au Japon on vivait le tournoi d’été au (Kuramae) Kokugikan.
Le vainqueur du mois de mars était le Maegashira 8 Wakanami (8:23) qui deviendra plus tard Tamagaki-oyakata au club Tatsunami (1972-2006). Vingt-et-un matchs sont présentés dans cette vidéo.
Regardez par exemple à 5:04 Hanada, futur ozeki Takanohana ou Takamiyama à 17:33. Voyez aussi Tochiazuma I, le fondateur de Tamanoi-beya, à 20:33. Kitanofuji à 22:59 était encore loin de sa corde blanche tout comme Kotozakura I à 24:06.
À 25:30 Yutakayama II était quant à lui tout proche de la retraite… Taiho étant absent depuis quatre mois, Kashiwado (28:17) était le seul Grand champion en lice. À la fin de la quinzaine, l’ozeki Tamanoshima (27:04)– futur Y51 Tamanoumi – décrochait sa première coupe de l’Empereur.

Whilst France was in the throes of a major crisis in May 1968, Japan was hosting the summer tournament at the (Kuramae) Kokugikan.
March's winner was Maegashira 8 Wakanami (8:23), who would later become Tamagaki-oyakata at the Tatsunami stable (1972–2006). Twenty-one bouts are featured in this video.
Take a look, for example, at Hanada at 5:04 – the future ozeki Takanohana – or Takamiyama at 17:33. Also note Tochiazuma I, the founder of Tamanoi-beya, at 20:33. Kitanofuji at 22:59 was still a long way from his white cord, as was Kotozakura I at 24:06.
By 25:30, Yutakayama II was on the verge of retirement… With Taiho having been absent for four months, Kashiwado (28:17) was the only Grand Champion still in contention. By the end of the fortnight, the ozeki Tamanoshima (27:04)– the future Y51 Tamanoumi – had won his first Emperor’s Cup.
