La Nihon Sumo Kyokai a levé le voile sur le classement officiel des 601 lutteurs engagés pour le tournoi de septembre. Mouvements au sommet, promotions historiques et revers brutaux : voici l’analyse des grands enseignements de ce nouveau banzuke.

  • Yokozuna et san’yaku : Onosato prend la main 

Premier moment fort de ce classement : Onosato dépasse Hoshoryu au rang de yokozuna. Une hiérarchie appelée à durer le temps que le Mongol ne se remette de sa blessure... 
Juste en dessous, le vainqueur de Nagoya, Aonishiki, réintègre logiquement le rang d’ozeki, installé derrière Kirishima. 
La sensation du jour vient cependant de la promotion de Fujinokawa chez les sekiwake, tandis qu’Atamifuji maintient ses positions.  Hakunofuji accroche la quatrième place chez les komusubi, épaulé par un Daieisho revanchard qui retrouve la catégorie reine un an après sa relégation.

  • Maegashira : des carrières au sommet, d'autres dans la tourmente

Le contingent de première division enregistre plusieurs sommets de carrière : Kotoeiho, Fujiryoga, Roga et Shishi n'ont jamais été aussi bien classés qu'aujourd'hui. 
Le tournoi marquera aussi les grands débuts dans l'élite d’Asasuiryu et Toshinofuji, rejoints par les revenants Tokihayate et Shonannoumi (ce dernier ouvrant d'ailleurs la voie du numéro 17). 
À l'inverse, la sanction tombe pour Wakatakakage, qui subit un plongeon brutal de 13 places. Auteurs d’un mois de juillet décevant, Kotoshoho se retrouve propulsé en première ligne des maegashira, alors que Daisiezan, Kazuma, Onokatsu et Mitakeumi essuient un tournoi à oublier au plus vite : ils sont relégués en Juryo

  • Juryo : la jeunesse prend le pouvoir

Trois hommes signent le meilleur banzuke de leur carrière : Dewanoryu, Kazekeno et Arashifuji.

Très populaire dans les coeurs des supporters, Nabatame encadrera la montée des deux "petits nouveaux", Tanji et Tokifudo.

Faisons aussi le point sur les favoris du public :

  •  Mita (Futagoyama) signe la plus belle remontée de la semaine en bondissant de la 41ᵉ à la 15ᵉ place en Makushita.

  • "L’ogre" Asahifuji (Isegahama) prend les commandes de cette même division pour sa sixième compétition professionnelle. 

  • Dans le bas du tableau (Jonokuchi), le rookie britannique Eisei (Minato) fait son entrée au rang #18, pendant que le vétéran Moriura (Otake) résiste à la 14ᵉ place.

  • Tenrosei (Shikoroyama) gagne dix rangs en Makushita #46, tandis que son coéquipier Haruto "sort des radars" en finissant banzuke-gai.

  • Côté mauvaises opérations, Hikarumusashi (Musashigawa) dégringole jusqu’en Jonidan #25.

Rendez-vous dimanche 13-9 pour l’ouverture du tournoi. Quel lutteur s'imposera ?

Tous les regards sont tournés vers Atamifuji : concrétisera-t-il ses chances de devenir ozeki ? Il ne lui faut que 12 points et un bon résultat (ce qui signifie un prix spécial)…​​

The Nihon Sumo Kyokai has lifted the veil on the official ranking of the 601 wrestlers entered for the September tournament. Moves at the top, historic promotions and brutal setbacks: here is the analysis of the biggest highlights of this new banzuke.

  • Yokozuna and san'yaku: Onosato takes the lead

First strong news in this chart: Onosato overtakes Hoshoryu for the status of yokozuna. A hierarchy that is expected to last until the Mongolian recovers from his injury...  
Just below, the winner of Nagoya, Aonishiki, logically rejoins the ozeki rank, settled behind Kirishima.  
The sensation of the day, however, comes from Fujinokawa's sekiwake promotion, while Atamifuji maintains his position. Hakunofuji takes the fourth place as komusubi, supported by a revengeful Daieisho who returned to the top class a year after his relegation.

  • Maegashira: some careers at their best, others in turmoil

The first division contingent has several career highs: Kotoeiho, Fujiryoga, Roga and Shishi have never been so well ranked.  
The tournament will also mark the debut of Asasuiryu and Toshinofuji, joined by the returning Tokihayate and Shonannoumi (the latter opening the number 17 position).
On the contrary, the sanction fell for Wakatakakage, who suffered a brutal fall of 13 places. After a disappointing month of July, Kotoshoho found himself driven to the maegashira front line, while Daisiezan, Kazuma, Onokatsu and Mitakeumi suffered a last tournament to forget as soon as possible: they are relegated to Juryo.

  • Juryo: when youth takes the power

Three men signed the best banzuke of their careers: Dewanoryu, Kazekeno and Arashifuji.

Very popular in the hearts of the supporters, Nabatame will “supervise” the rise of two newcomers, Tanji and Tokifudo.

 

​​​Let’s also make an update on a few public's favorites:

  • Mita (Futagoyama) made a great comeback by jumping from the #41 to #15 place in Makushita.

  • "The Monster" Asahifuji (Isegahama) takes the lead in this same division for his sixth professional competition.

  • At the bottom of the table (Jonokuchi), British rookie Eisei (Minato) enters in #18 position, while veteran Moriura (Otake) resists in the #14 place.

  • Tenrosei (Shikoroyama) moves up ten places to Makushita #46, while his teammate Haruto goes "off the radar" by finishing banzuke-gai.

  • In terms of bad operations, Hikarumusashi (Musashigawa) tumbles to Jonidan #25.
