À 41 ans, Tamawashi (photo) prépare le tournoi d’été qui aura une note spéciale pour lui. Il n’a pris conscience de cet exploit que lundi soir lorsqu’il a reçu le courriel d’un ami pour le féliciter.

Aujourd’hui, il s’est rendu chez Takadagawa-beya et a combattu une douzaine de fois principalement contre Shonannoumi. Malgré son gain 9-3, il n’est pas satisfait et trouve que son sumo "manque quelques fois de confiance".

Shonan’ est lui aussi perplexe… Il n’arrive pas à saisir suffisamment tôt le mawashi de son adversaire et se retrouve les bras bloqués. Il veut profiter de la semaine qui nous sépare du Natsu basho pour travailler sur ce point.

FYI, le comité YDC organisera demain – vendredi 1er mai - son habituel examen au Kokugikan. Autour du président Hakkaku et d’autres officiels, les délégués évalueront les rikishi avant la compétition.

At 41, Tamawashi (pictured) is preparing for the summer tournament, which will hold special significance for him. He only realised the significance of this achievement on Monday evening when he received an email from a friend congratulating him.

Today, he visited Takadagawa-beya and wrestled a dozen times, mainly against Shonannoumi. Despite his 9-3 record, he is not satisfied and feels that his sumo "lacks confidence at times".

Shonan is also perplexed… He failed to grab his opponent’s mawashi quickly enough and finds his arms pinned most of the time. He intends to use the week remaining before the Natsu basho to work hard on this.

FYI, the YDC committee will hold its usual assessment tomorrow – Friday 1 May – at the Kokugikan. Alongside Chairman Hakkaku and other officials, the delegates will evaluate the rikishi ahead of the tournament.
