Having sustained an injury to his left leg during the summer tour, Takayasu (aged 36, Tagonoura stable) confirmed on Tuesday that he would be competing in the Autumn tournament, which begins on September 13 at the Kokugikan.

Despite his summer preparations being disrupted by an adductor muscle injury, the Maegashira 2 East intends to give his all to perform as close to his best as possible.

Having missed the Commission’s session (Friday 4th) and the Nishonoseki faction's training session (Monday 7th) as a precaution, Takayasu resumed training on the dohyo at the end of August following the announcement of the banzuke. During today’s session, he completed two hours of training and eight bouts against wrestlers from the Sandanme division (photo). Although dissatisfied with his lack of fluidity and the accumulated fatigue, he is approaching the final stretch calmly, without wanting to rush things.

Buoyed by his 11 victories and his Fighting Spirit award (kanto-sho) at the previous tournament, he is now aiming to return to the san’yaku ranks. Realistic about his physical condition and his age, Takayasu remains pragmatic: his main objective is to achieve a winning record (kachi-koshi) by relying on experience, pacing and concentration rather than on sheer power alone.
