La Takadagawa-beya a présenté sa toute dernière recrue lors des examens athlétiques organisés ce lundi 3 août au Kokugikan, une épreuve réservée aux candidats ne répondant pas aux critères physiques habituels.
Originaire d'Ibaraki, Teiken Shinmichi (photo) est âgé de 15 ans et affiche un gabarit atypique pour la discipline : 1,65 m pour seulement 55 kg.
Malgré son manque d'expérience dans le sumo, ce spécialiste de ju-jitsu brésilien et de MMA a réussi haut la main les tests imposés par Chiyomaru et Wakatakamoto, s'illustrant notamment sur le sprint de 50 mètres.
C'est sous l'impulsion de son grand-père, passionné de l'ancien directeur de l'écurie (l'ex-ozeki Maenoyama), qu'une rencontre avait été organisée avec l’administration actuelle en juin dernier.

Takadagawa-beya introduced their latest recruit during the physical fitness tests held on Monday, August 3 at the Kokugikan, an exam reserved for candidates who do not meet the usual physical criteria.
Originally from Ibaraki, Teiken Shinmichi (photo) is 15 years old and has an unusual build for the sport: 1.65 m and weighs just 55 kg.
Despite his lack of experience in sumo, this Brazilian jiu-jitsu and MMA specialist passed the tests set by Chiyomaru and Wakatakamoto with flying colors, excelling in particular in the 50-meter sprint.
It was at the instigation of his grandfather, a great admirer of the former stablemaster (fka ozeki Maenoyama), that a meeting was arranged with the current manager last June.
