Could we see a reduction in the frequency of jungyo as early as next summer?

The Japan Sumo Association is reportedly considering revising the schedule for provincial tours (jungyo) from summer 2027 onwards.
Whilst the April program has already been finalised and will mark the end of a particularly hectic period, the schedule will slow down from August onwards.
The total number of days on the road would thus fall from 90 to 70 per year, accompanied by a reduction in travel distances. Another major change: instead of rushing from one stop to the next each day, the wrestlers would stay for around three days at each venue. This change has been designed to reduce the fatigue caused by travelling whilst maintaining contact with local audiences.
