Comme à son habitude, l’Association a révélé les promotions trois jours après le tournoi d’hiver, qui seront rendues officielles lorsque le banzuke sortira le 23 décembre.

On apprend ainsi que Kiryuko (Tatsunami-beya) réintègrera la Juryo après sa relégation en octobre, et Hatsuyama (Tamanoi-beya) fera ses débuts sekitori en janvier. La nouvelle moins heureuse est le dévoilement des retraites. HUIT hommes ont choisi de raccrocher le mawashi, entre parenthèses est indiqué leur meilleur classement :

• Tatsunami-beya : Daishiyama (Jonidan 38) et Kokiryu (Jonidan 27)

• Isegahama-beya : Nishikiori (Jonidan 62), un ancien disciple de Hakuho

• Sadogatake-beya : Kotoozutsu (Makushita 8) et Kotoryusei (Makushita 38)

• Musashigawa-beya : Hayanami (Makushita 32)

• Kokonoe-beya : Chiyoresshi (Sandanme 18)

• Oitekaze-beya : Daishosei (Sandanme 64)
