L’Association nous présente aujourd’hui l’ouverture du tournoi de printemps 1967. Quelques semaines plus tôt, Taiho remportait son 24e trophée. C’est lors de cette compétition que Takamiyama a fait ses débuts en Juryo comme n° 18 (0:51). Vingt matchs en Makuuchi sont diffusés ici. On peut voir notamment le futur directeur Tamanoi, Tochiazuma I, faire ses premiers pas dans l’élite (5:23). Vous pouvez aussi retrouver Kotozakura I quand il était encore sekiwake (17:12) ainsi que les ozeki Tamanoshima (18:55) et Kitanofuji (19:58). À la fin de la quinzaine, c’est ce dernier qui soulèvera sa première coupe de l’Empereur sur le score de 14-1.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
The Association presents today the opening of the Spring 1967 tournament. A few weeks earlier, Taiho had won his 24th trophy. It was at this competition that Takamiyama made his Juryo debut as No. 18 (0:51). Twenty matches in Makuuchi are broadcast here. We can see the future Tamanoi director, Tochiazuma I, taking his first steps in the elite (5:23). You can also find Kotozakura I when he was still sekiwake (17:12) as well as the ozeki Tamanoshima (18:55) and Kitanofuji (19:58). At the end of the fortnight, it was the latter who lifted his first Emperor's Cup with a 14-1 score.
