Au lendemain de sa victoire au tournoi d'automne — son sixième titre et le premier depuis un an — le yokozuna Onosato (écurie Nishonoseki) s'est présenté apaisé en conférence de presse ce lundi 28.

Une fois l’interview en direct sur la NHK terminée, j'ai pris un bain et je suis allé me coucher. La réalité de ce succès n'a vraiment infusé qu'aujourd'hui.

Pourtant, le sacre a failli lui échapper. Alors qu'il avait une option sur le titre dès la treizième journée, le lutteur a concédé deux revers d'affilée imprévus, reportant toute la pression sur l'ultime combat face à l'ozeki Aonishiki (écurie Ajigawa).

C'est le conseil de son maître Nishonoseki samedi soir, ("garde ton calme") qui lui a permis de retrouver son sumo et de s'imposer.

S'il règne sur le tournoi d'automne depuis septembre 2024, Onosato peine encore à s'imposer à Kyushu, au concours du Nouvel an ou à Nagoya. Un déséquilibre qu'il entend bien corriger dès le mois de novembre à Fukuoka…
