Intai: Satonofuji leaves for a well-deserved retirement
On a appris la nouvelle très tôt ce matin via ABEMA tv (diffusion quotidienne de l’intégralité des tournois) : l’ancien "danseur de l’arc" raccroche le mawashi. Voici quelques lignes de son histoire.
We learned the news very early this morning via ABEMA tv (daily broadcast of all the tournaments): the former bow-twirler is hanging up the mawashi. Here are a few lines of his history.
À 48 ans, Satonofuji n’a certes pas atteint le statut de sekitori, mais pour beaucoup de personnes il est un yokozuna dans le rituel du yumitori-shiki.
Débutant en janvier 1996 chez Isegahama-beya, il a commencé à réaliser la cérémonie en 2013 quelques mois après la promotion du yokozuna Harumafuji jusqu’en novembre 2017 (retraite forcée du Grand champion) avant de reprendre en juillet 2021 lorsque Terunofuji a reçu sa corde blanche. Côté dohyo, il a atteint son meilleur rang de Makushita 55 pour Aki 2005 (septembre) mais a passé 95% de sa carrière en Sandanme ou Jonidan.
Il quitte l’Association ce soir en anticipation de la retraite de son directeur fka Asahifuji en juillet, mais avoue qu’il gardera toujours un amour profond pour le sumo. Il travaillera désormais à Tokyo dans une brasserie.ENGLISH TRANSLATION
At 48 years old, Satonofuji may not have obtained the status of sekitori, but for many people he is a yokozuna in the ritual of yumitori-shiki.
