Yokozuna
L’abandon d’Onosato au dernier jour du tournoi de novembre lui coûte sa place de leader, il échange donc sa position avec Hoshoryu.

San'yaku
Aonishiki est notre nouvel ozeki, il brise plusieurs records dont la promotion la plus rapide depuis son premier dohyo.
Derrière lui, Kirishima retrouve son poste de sekiwake et Wakamotoharu celui de komusubi. Ce dernier sera accompagné en janvier par Oho.
De son côté, Takanosho (5-10) est destitué de la san’yaku et tombe en Maegashira 3…

Maegashira
Quatre hommes atteignent leur meilleur classement : Ichiyamamoto, Yoshinofuji, Fujinokawa et Tokihayate.
Asanoyama est de retour, il amène avec lui deux nouveaux en Makuuchi : son "frère de club" Asahakuryu (photo) et Hatsuyama.

Juryo
Trois rikishi sont relégués en deuxième division : Sadanoumi, Shonannoumi et Meisei.
Trois autres enregistrent leur meilleure place : Fujiryoga, Nishinoryu et Asasuiryu.
Kazuma et Dewanoryu feront leur entrée sekitori au côtés de Kyokukaiyu.
Remarque
En lisant le banzuke, on observe que huit rikishi appartenant à l’ancienne Miyagino-beya ont reçu un nouveau shikona !
On citera par exemple Hakuoho 伯桜鵬 > Hakunofuji 伯乃富士.
