Lundi matin, Aonishiki a tenu la traditionnelle conférence de presse du champion dans les locaux d'Ajigawa-beya.
Hier, il a marqué une fois de plus l’Histoire : voilà 20 ans (mai 2006, Hakuho) qu’un ozeki nouvellement promu n’avait pas remporté la coupe de l’Empereur dès son premier tournoi ! Au mois de mars à Osaka, l'Ukrainien se battra pour acquérir le titre de yokozuna. Il est arrivé devant les journalistes assez détendu, et même en avance de 15 minutes sur l’horaire initialement prévu.
Tout le monde raconte que la quinzaine est passée très vite, mais pour moi c’était la plus longue de ma jeune carrière ! On me compare souvent à Futabayama par rapport à mes deux trophées consécutifs comme nouveau sekiwake et ozeki [NDLR, mai 1936 et janvier 1937], c’est très flatteur. C’est l’un des premiers rikishi dont j’ai étudié les matchs quand je suis arrivé au Japon.

He was one of the first rikishi whose matches I studied when I arrived in Japan.
