Premier acte : les jours 1 à 5
First act: days 1 to 5
Sur cette première période, on notera principalement les deux étoiles d’or collectées par Fujinokawa aux troisième et quatrième jours.
La san’yaku a mené une bataille très compliquée : seulement 21 points marqués sur 40, le blâme revient notamment au komusubi Wakamotoharu qui n’inscrit que des défaites (0-5) à son tableau…
Sans compter le forfait de Midorifuji avant le tournoi, les blessures n’ont pas tardé à apparaître : Onokatsu et Hakunofuji le lundi, Abi le mardi, et Onosato le mercredi.

The san'yaku fought a very complicated battle: only 21 points scored out of 40, the blame lies with komusubi Wakamotoharu who only recorded defeats (0-5) on his board...
Excluding Midorifuji's withdrawal before the tournament, injuries did not take long to appear: Onokatsu and Hakunofuji on Monday, Abi on Tuesday, and Onosato on Wednesday.

Dans cette étape, Kirishima a commencé sa domination en faisant un "sans-faute" 5-0.
Hoshoryu décernera son deuxième kinboshi à Daieisho, pendant qu’Abi et Hakunofuji reviendront dans la partie.
Chez les Juryo, c’est aussi à ce moment qu’on voit Dewanoryu se détacher du groupe.
Malheureusement, la tentative d’une reprise d’activité de la part d’Onokatsu sera de courte durée à cause de sa cheville.

In this part of the competition, Kirishima began his domination by making a "spotless" 5-0.
Hoshoryu awarded his second kinboshi to Daieisho, while Abi and Hakunofuji returned on the dohyo.
In Juryo, it is also at this moment that we saw Dewanoryu make the break with the rest of the pack.
Unfortunately, Onokatsu's attempt to come back was short-lived due to his ankle.
Troisième acte : les jours 11 à 15
Third act: days 11 to 15
Sur les 67 sekitori engagés dans les deux divisions, seuls Chiyoshoma (Maegashira 14) et Ryuden (Juryo 1) réalisent un score parfait de 5-0 à ce moment !
La course à la coupe de l’Empereur a vraiment pris son importance ici. Gonoyama, le n°10, vient rivaliser avec Kirishima dans l’échappée mais cela ne durera pas longtemps. Depuis mercredi 18 -le onzième jour- le sekiwake mène une chevauchée solitaire, mais toujours menacé par un à trois concurrents.
En deuxième ligue, Dewanoryu reste lui aussi "mâle dominant" malgré les quelques tentatives de Wakanosho de prendre le commandement. Cette bataille s’achèvera finalement au cours d’un playoff dimanche 22.

The race for the Emperor's cup really took on its importance here. Gonoyama, the No. 10, came to compete with Kirishima in the breakaway but it didn't last long. Since Wednesday 18 -the eleventh day- the sekiwake has been riding alone but still threatened by one to three competitors.
In the second league, Dewanoryu also remained "dominant" despite a few attempts by Wakanosho to take command. This battle will finally end during a playoff on Sunday 22nd.

Chaque soir après les combats, les spectateurs et les souscripteurs de l’application GRAND SUMO pouvaient voter pour les sekitori qui ont le mieux combattu selon eux.
Si Isenoumi-beya obtient la première place du podium des clubs avec 10 voix, Wakanosho (Juryo, 7 points) et Fujinokawa (Makuuchi, 6 points) sont les lutteurs qui remportent le plus de succès.

Every night after the fights, spectators and subscribers to the GRAND SUMO application could vote for the sekitori who fought the best in their opinion.
While Isenoumi-beya obtained the first place on the stables podium with 10 votes, Wakanosho (Juryo, 7 points) and Fujinokawa (Makuuchi, 6 points) were the most loved wrestlers.

Sur l’ensemble de la quinzaine de la compétition, Daieisho et Shodai ont à ce jour la plus grosse rivalité avec 35 duels depuis leur première rencontre Maegashira en mars 2016.
Dimanche 22 mars, le rikishi n°1 d’Oitekaze-beya qui menait les duels 24-11.

Over the entire fortnight of the competition, Daieisho and Shodai have the biggest rivalry to date with 35 fights since their first Maegashira meeting in March 2016.

Le conseil YDC a approuvé officiellement mercredi 25 mars le retour de Kirishima au statut d’ozeki.

L’affaire Isegahama, dont Hakunofuji était la victime en février, sera finalement jugée le jeudi 9 avril. Son directeur, l’ancien yokozuna Terunofuji, a pu continuer d’entraîner pendant le tournoi mais il était suspendu de ses autres fonctions au sein de l’Association.

The YDC Committee officially approved Kirishima's return to the ozeki status on Wednesday, March 25.

The Isegahama case, of which Hakunofuji was the victim in February, will finally be tried on Thursday, April 9. His director, former yokozuna Terunofuji, was able to continue coaching during the tournament but was suspended from his other duties with the Association.
