Si les candidatures de Sunada (Musashigawa), Kobayashi (Nishonoseki) et Shinmichi (Takadagawa) étaient déjà acquises depuis cet été, la surprise du jour vient de Nakanishi, seulement 15 ans, qui tente sa chance auprès de la Kise-beya.
Seule ombre au tableau : l'absence du yokozuna amateur 2020, Hanada (25 ans, photo). Revenu au Japon en janvier après une tentative avortée d'intégrer la NFL via l'université du Colorado, le jeune homme hésitait sur son avenir dans le sumo. Cette semaine représentait son ultime opportunité d'effectuer le grand saut, mais il a finalement choisi de passer son tour...
