A new archive unveiled by the Association: let’s take a look at July 1968!
En ce début d'été, la JSA fait monter sa DeLorean à bord d'un voyage temporel de 58 ans, direction Nagoya en juillet 1968.
Dans la foulée de la première coupe de l'Empereur remportée par l’ozeki Tamanoshima deux mois plus tôt, ce tournoi voyait Tochiazuma I intégrer les san’yaku au rang de komusubi. Cette quinzaine fut aussi marquée par les débuts Maezumo de deux futures "Cordes blanches" issues de la Futagoyama-beya : Shimoyama (Wakanohana II, 56) et Takaya (Takanosato, 59). Au terme de la compétition, c’est un autre ozeki qui s'est imposé, décrochant ainsi le premier titre de sa carrière : Kotozakura I.
Comme toujours, la vidéo de cette première journée propose un total de vingt-et-un combats. Vous pourrez y découvrir, par exemple, le match d'Hanada (futur Takanohana I) en Juryo à 4:01, ou encore celui de Takamiyama à 20:35. Les ozeki Kotozakura I et Kitanofuji entrent en scène respectivement à 21:30 et 22:53, juste avant les passages successifs de Yutakayama II à 23:53, de Tamanoshima à 24:59, et enfin de Kashiwado à 26:03.

As summer gets underway, the JSA is taking its DeLorean on a 58-year journey through time, heading for Nagoya in July 1968.
In the wake of the first Emperor’s cup won by the ozeki Tamanoshima two months earlier, this tournament saw Tochiazuma I join the san’yaku ranks as komusubi. This fortnight was also marked by the Maezumo debuts of two future "White ropes" from Futagoyama-beya: Shimoyama (Wakanohana II, 56) and Takaya (Takanosato, 59). At the end of the tournament, it was another ozeki who emerged victorious, securing the first title of his career: Kotozakura I.
As always, the video from this first day features a total of twenty-one bouts. You can watch, for example, Hanada’s (the future Takanohana I) bout in Juryo at 4:01, or Takamiyama’s at 20:35. Both ozeki Kotozakura I and Kitanofuji took to the ring at 21:30 and 22:53, just before Yutakayama II at 23:53, Tamanoshima at 24:59, and Kashiwado at 26:03.
