Ryogoku III détient le palmarès du rikishi qui n’a jamais combattu en Juryo !
Démarrant sa carrière en 1927, il a intégré la Makushita en janvier 1930 et y aura combattu pendant deux années. Mais en février 1932, alors qu’il devait être promu dans la deuxième division, un scandale orchestré par Tenryu et Onosato a éclaté ("incident Shunjuen") et beaucoup de rikishi principalement de la Dewanoumi-beya les ont suivi.
C’est ainsi que Ryogoku, appelé alors Tamanoura, a sauté en Makuuchi pour devenir Maegashira 7 sur le banzuke de mars/Haru. Il atteindra son rang maximal de sekiwake en janvier 1938 et prendra sa retraite en mai 1942. Il sera par la suite instructeur sous le kabu Matsuchiyama jusqu’à sa mort en 1959 (52 ans).

Ryogoku III holds the record of the rikishi who has never fought in Juryo!
Starting his career in 1927, he joined Makushita in January 1930 and fought there for two years. But in February 1932, when he was to be promoted to the second division, a scandal orchestrated by Tenryu and Onosato broke out (the "Shunjuen incident") and many rikishi mainly from Dewanoumi-beya followed them.
This is how Ryogoku, then called Tamanoura, jumped into Makuuchi to become Maegashira 7 on the March/Haru banzuke. He reached his highest rank of sekiwake in January 1938 and retired in May 1942. He was then an instructor known as Matsuchiyama-oyakata until his death in 1959 (52 years old).
