L’Association japonaise de sumo a dévoilé ce mercredi 30 septembre la liste des promotions en Juryo pour le tournoi de novembre, qui ne compte que deux nouveaux entrants (photos).
Dans la foulée, neuf départs à la retraite ont été officialisés. Par déduction, seuls deux lutteurs — très probablement Tochitaikai et Nishikigi — devraient être relégués en Makushita. Retrouvez ces informations dans les tableaux au milieu de l'article.
NB : Asahifuji (photo de gauche) s’était déjà fait remarquer bien avant son intégration officielle au banzuke en novembre 2025. S'entraînant depuis plusieurs années au sein de l'écurie Isegahama, il ne pouvait pas en faire partie en raison du règlement de la JSA limitant chaque heya à un seul lutteur étranger (Terunofuji occupant alors cette place). Depuis un an, il a marqué les esprits par sa domination. Il a remporté successivement les quatre championnats des divisions inférieures de Jonokuchi à Makushita sur le score parfait de 7-0. On Wednesday, September 30, the Japan Sumo Association announced the list of promotions to the Juryo division for the November tournament, which features just two newcomers (photos).
In the wake of this, nine retirements have been officially confirmed. Consequently, only two wrestlers — most likely Tochitaikai and Nishikigi — are expected to be relegated to Makushita. You can find this information in the tables in the middle of the article.
NB: Asahifuji (pictured left) had already made a name well before his official inclusion in the banzuke in November 2025. Although he had been training for several years at the Isegahama stable, he was unable to join due to JSA regulations limiting each heya to a single foreign wrestler (with Terunofuji occupying that spot at the time). Over the past year, he has made a lasting impression with his dominance. He won the four lower-division championships from Jonokuchi to Makushita in a row with a perfect 7-0 record. His unbeaten run finally came to an end last July against Nabatame, one of the crowd favourites.
