À une semaine du tournoi d’automne au Kokugikan, l’heure est aux grands affrontements d’entraînement.
Pour affûter ses armes, Kirishima (photo, de face) s’est lancé dans un marathon inter-écuries (degieko). Après une première session éprouvante chez Isegahama le samedi — 18 combats disputés face aux pointures Atamifuji et Hakunofuji — le Mongol de 30 ans a "remis le couvert" aujourd'hui chez Isenoumi.
Dominateur, il y a signé 13 victoires en 15 duels, étalant toute sa palette technique : charges initiales percutantes, ténacité au bord du ring et projections spectaculaires. Fort de ses 12 victoires enregistrées sur chacun des trois derniers tournois, l'ozeki aborde l'échéance en pleine possession de ses moyens et poursuivra sa préparation face aux autres sekitori dès demain.
En face, le tout nouveau sekiwake Fujinokawa (photo, de profil) a servi de partenaire privilégié au prétendant au titre suprême. Malgré un bilan défavorable lors de leurs confrontations directes, le jeune haut-gradé n’a pas démérité. Combatif et explosif, il s'est offert le luxe de soulever son aîné à plusieurs reprises. Épargné par les pépins physiques après deux journées intenses, Fujinokawa confirme sa montée en puissance et entend maintenir ce rythme jusqu'au coup d'envoi de la compétition.

To hone his skills, Kirishima (photo, front view) embarked on an inter-stable marathon (degieko). After a gruelling first session at Isegahama on Saturday — 18 bouts against the heavyweights Atamifuji and Hakunofuji — the 30-year-old Mongolian was back in action today at Isenoumi.
A dominant force, he has secured 13 victories in 15 bouts, showcasing his full technical repertoire: powerful opening charges, tenacity at the edge of the ring and spectacular throws. Powered by his 12 victories in each of the last three tournaments, the ozeki is approaching the event in peak form and will continue his preparations against the other sekitori from tomorrow.
Opposite him, the brand-new sekiwake Fujinokawa (photo, profile view) proved a worthy opponent for the title contender. Despite a poor record in their head-to-head matches, the young top-ranked wrestler put in a creditable performance. Combative and explosive, he even managed to lift his older opponent on several occasions. Having avoided any physical setbacks after two intense days, Fujinokawa has confirmed his rise in form and intends to maintain this pace right up until the competition kicks off.
