Le sumo est de retour à Tokyo ! La san’yaku n’a pas été très "performante" aujourd’hui, seuls trois des sept engagés ont décroché leur premier point… Félicitations à Okaryu (Juryo) et Wakanosho (Makuuchi) qui démarrent très bien leur tournoi en tant que nouvel arrivant !

L’un des grands favoris pour mai est Enho ! Malgré une bonne défense de Tochitaikai, l’ancien élève de Hakuho arrive à repousser son adversaire (photo). Dans son mawashi rouge flambant neuf, Okaryu exécute la même technique sur Hakuyozan.

Ne clignez pas des yeux ! Wakatakakage ruse pour sortir rapidement Hiradoumi… Un peu plus tard, Kotoshoho va faire le grand écart pour éliminer Yoshinofuji, mais son coude touche le sol avant et c’est finalement Yoshi 🦖 qui gagne la rencontre.

Ichiyamamoto va reculer jusque sur la bande de paille avant de laisser passer Atamifuji. Le même scénario s’applique à Kirishima contre Takanosho. Fujinokawa n’avait pas réussi l’exploit de battre un ozeki à Osaka, il rectifie aujourd’hui son palmarès en écartant Kotozakura.

Est-ce l’événement de cette journée d’ouverture ? Takayasu fait tourner Hoshoryu sur le dohyo avant de saisir la nuque et de plaquer le yokozuna au sol !! Le mongol a eu du mal à se relever et boîtait pour retourner au vestiaire. On rapporte même qu’il est parti du Kokugikan en fauteuil 😫.

Un petit bonus dimanche : la nouvelle recrue Omori (Oitekaze-beya) a joué son premier match professionnel, ce qui a amorcé la compétition Makushita.

One of the big favorites for May is Enho! Despite a good defense from Tochitaikai, Hakuho’s former pupil managed to push back his opponent (pictured). In his brand new red mawashi, Okaryu performed the same technique on Hakuyozan.

Don't blink! Wakatakakage took out Hiradoumi quickly... A little later, Kotoshoho did some splits to eliminate Yoshinofuji, but his elbow touched the front ground and Yoshi 🦖 finally won the match.

Ichiyamamoto would back up to the straw bale before letting Atamifuji pass. The same scenario applied to Kirishima against Takanosho. Fujinokawa had not managed the feat of beating an ozeki in Osaka, he corrected his record today by dismissing Kotozakura.

Is it the main event of this opening day? Takayasu spun Hoshoryu on the dohyo before grabbing the back of his neck and pinning the yokozuna to the ground! The Mongolian had trouble getting up and limped back to the locker room. It is even reported that he left the Kokugikan in a wheelchair 😫.

A little bonus on Sunday: the newest recruit Omori (Oitekaze-beya) played his first professional bout, which started the Makushita competition.
