Ce Nagoya basho s'ouvre sur un coup dur : l'absence du sekiwake Wakatakakage, tout juste sacré au tournoi précédent mais contraint au repos après une lourde opération à la jambe.
Les projecteurs se sont donc braqués sur le trio de favoris : Hoshoryu, Kirishima (en quête de la 76ᵉ corde blanche de yokozuna) et Aonishiki, bien décidé à reconquérir son rang d'ozeki.
Dès les cinq premiers jours, deux hommes ont créé la surprise en signant un parcours parfait de 5-0 : le M11 Wakanosho et le M14 Shishi.
En revanche, le doute s'est installé dans les gradins face à la forme vacillante des yokozuna, qui ont concédé trois kinboshi coup sur coup...

This Nagoya basho got off to a tough start: the absence of sekiwake Wakatakakage, who was only just crowned at the previous tournament but has been forced to sit out following major surgery on his leg.
All eyes were therefore on the trio of favourites: Hoshoryu, Kirishima (in pursuit of the 76th white cord of yokozuna) and Aonishiki, determined to regain his rank as an ozeki.
Right from the first five days, two men caused a surprise by posting a perfect 5-0 record: the M11 Wakanosho and the M14 Shishi.
On the other hand, doubt has set in amongst the spectators due to the yokozuna’s inconsistent form, as they have conceded three kinboshi in quick succession...

La deuxième semaine a débuté par une mauvaise nouvelle avec l'abandon sur blessure au genou du leader Wakanosho.
Heureusement, le public a pu se réjouir du retour en force de ses deux chouchous, Aonishiki et Asanoyama, qui ont enchaîné les victoires.
C'est durant cette phase que Hoshoryu a lâché une précieuse étoile face à Hakunofuji.
En division Juryo, la compétition a été tout aussi intense, marquée par le coup d'éclat de Toshinofuji qui est venu faire trébucher Arashifuji.

The second week began with some bad news, as the leader, Wakanosho, was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury.
Fortunately, the crowd were delighted to see the triumphant return of their two favorites, Aonishiki and Asanoyama, who racked up one victory after another.
It was during this phase that Hoshoryu lost a precious star to Hakunofuji.
In the Juryo division, the competition was just as intense, marked by a stunning upset from Toshinofuji, who managed to topple Arashifuji.

Le dernier tiers de la quinzaine a été écrasé par la supériorité d'Atamifuji, étincelant toutes divisions sekitori confondues.
Auteur d'une remontée spectaculaire, il est parvenu à arracher un kettei-sen (play-off) face à Kirishima et Aonishiki.
C'est finalement le lutteur ukrainien qui a eu le dernier mot et soulevé la troisième coupe de sa carrière, signant un exploit d'autant plus remarquable qu'il a disputé une grande partie du tournoi en étant diminué par une blessure au pied...

The final third of the fortnight was dominated by Atamifuji, who shone across all sekitori divisions.
Staging a spectacular comeback, he managed to force a kettei-sen (play-off) against Kirishima and Aonishiki.
In the end, the Ukrainian wrestler had the last word and lifted the third trophy of his career, achieving a feat made all the more remarkable by the fact that he competed for much of the tournament whilst hampered by a foot injury...

Chaque soir après les combats, les spectateurs et les souscripteurs de l’application GRAND SUMO pouvaient voter pour les sekitori qui ont le mieux combattu selon eux.
Avec 22 points décrochés par six lutteurs — tirés notamment par Enho (8) et Arashifuji (6) en Juryo — l'écurie Isegahama a été la plus captivante de cette quinzaine.
Elle devance la Takasago-beya et ses 14 points, emmenée par Asasuiryu (7), Asanoyama (6) et Asakoryu (1).
L’équipe Nishonoseki complète le podium grâce à Shirokuma (8) et Onosato (2).

Every night after the fights, spectators and subscribers to the GRAND SUMO application could vote for the sekitori who fought the best in their opinion.
With 22 points secured by six wrestlers — led in particular by Enho (8) and Arashifuji (6) in Juryo — the Isegahama stable proved to be the most exciting of the fortnight.
They are ahead of the Takasago-beya and their 14 points, led by Asasuiryu (7), Asanoyama (6) and Asakoryu (1).
The Nishonoseki team completed the podium thanks to Shirokuma (8) and Onosato (2).

En parallèle, le choc entre Daieisho et Shodai du neuvième jour représente le plus important face-à-face de ce tournoi de Nagoya 2026 : un historique amorcé en mars 2016 où Daieisho mène largement (25-11).

Réuni ce lundi 27, le conseil de délibération des Yokozuna (YDC) s’est montré étonnamment indulgent envers nos deux Grands champions, se contentant de leur rappeler fermement les devoirs et exigences dus à leur rang.

Du côté des promotions Juryo pour le tournoi de septembre, annoncées ce mercredi 29, la division des sekitori s'apprête à accueillir deux nouveaux visages : Tanji et Tokifudo. Autre grande nouvelle, la foule retrouvera avec plaisir Nabatame, qui signe son grand retour parmi l'élite après une année passée en Makushita.
Place désormais à la traditionnelle tournée estivale du 2 au 30 août ! FURANSUMO restera mobilisé pour vous faire vivre les différentes étapes, avant de vous donner rendez-vous pour le tournoi d’automne (Aki basho), du 13 au 27 septembre au Kokugikan de Tokyo.

At their meeting on Monday 27th, the Yokozuna Deliberation Council (YDC) showed itself to be surprisingly lenient towards our two Grand Champions, merely issuing them with a firm reminder of the duties and expectations associated with their rank.

As for the Juryo promotions for the September tournament, announced on Wednesday 29th, the sekitori division is set to welcome two new faces: Tanji and Tokifudo. In other big news, the crowd will be delighted to see Nabatame, who is making his grand return to the elite after a year in Makushita.
Now it’s time for the traditional summer tour, running from August 2 to 30! FURANSUMO will continue to bring you all the action from each stage, before we see you again for the autumn tournament (Aki basho), from September 13 to 27 at the Kokugikan in Tokyo.
