Dimanche 12 juillet : un début de tournoi explosif !

La compétition démarre sur les chapeaux de roues à Nagoya ! Dans l'ensemble, les nouveaux sekitori ont réussi leur entrée en matière. Du côté de la san’yaku, la journée est plutôt positive, à l'exception notable d'un yokozuna…

En Juryo, malgré un excellent départ, Enho s'est fait surprendre par Hitoshi. Un peu plus tard, le vétéran Tamawashi a fait parler l'expérience en remettant le jeune Hatsuyama à sa place.

En Makuuchi, Asanoyama a chargé Tobizaru avec puissance, l'envoyant chuter sur les fesses au coin du dohyo. Le public a ensuite vibré pour le duel entre deux de ses favoris : Ichiyamamoto a mené une attaque fulgurante face à Ura. Acculé, la "panthère rose" du sumo a tenté une contre-attaque désespérée avant de finir à plat ventre.

L'élite négocie globalement bien ce premier acte. Aonishiki a joint le geste à la parole en propulsant Hiradoumi hors du cercle. Kotozakura, de son côté, a piégé Takanosho : l'étonnant ozeki a contré une prise à la gorge du Maegashira 1, le déséquilibrant jusqu'à lui faire poser les mains au sol. Fujinokawa a subi un sort similaire, maîtrisé par Kirishima.

La surprise du jour vient des yokozuna : Onosato a commis une grossière erreur technique face à Yoshinofuji, imitée un peu plus tard par Oho face à Hoshoryu.

Sunday, July 12: an explosive start to the tournament!

The competition gets off to a flying start in Nagoya! Overall, the new sekitori have made a successful start. On the san'yaku side, the day is rather positive, with the notable exception of a yokozuna...

In Juryo, despite an excellent start, Enho was surprised by Hitoshi. A little later, the veteran Tamawashi made the experience speak for itself by putting the young Hatsuyama in his place.

In Makuuchi, Asanoyama charged Tobizaru with power, sending him to fall on his buttocks at the corner of the dohyo. The crowd then vibrated for the duel between two of his favorites: Ichiyamamoto led a lightning attack against Ura. Cornered, the sumo "pink panther" tried a desperate counterattack before ending up on his stomach.

The elite negotiated this first day well overall. Aonishiki put his money where his mouth is by propelling Hiradoumi out of the zone. Kotozakura, for his part, tricked Takanosho: the astonishing ozeki countered a hold by the throat of Maegashira 1, knocking him off balance until he put his hands on the ground. Fujinokawa suffered a similar fate, overpowered by Kirishima.

The surprise of the day came from the yokozuna: Onosato made a big technical error against Yoshinofuji, imitated a little later by Oho against Hoshoryu.
