L’Association a dévoilé vendredi le thème de sa future exposition, programmée du 13 septembre au 17 décembre 2026.

Pour marquer le centenaire de sa naissance célébré le 2 juin dernier, l'événement rendra hommage à Chiyonoyama, le 41ᵉ yokozuna. Les visiteurs pourront découvrir un ensemble exceptionnel de pièces ayant appartenu au champion :

• Ses effets personnels : un lot de trois kesho-mawashi utilisés pour ses dohyo-iri, accompagnés de sa malle de transport (akeni).

• Une archive historique : un cliché de février 1953 illustrant "l’ère des cinq Grands", où Chiyonoyama apparaît aux côtés d'Haguroyama (Y36), Terukuni (Y38, alors tout juste retraité), Azumafuji (Y40) et Kagamisato (Y42, fraîchement promu).

• Le document clé : sa lettre de recommandation pour l'obtention du titre suprême en mai 1951.

L'exposition mettra également en lumière l'héritage du fondateur de la Kokonoe-beya. Les tabliers de cérémonie de ses plus illustres disciples, Kitanofuji (Y52) et Chiyonofuji (Y58), y seront présentés auprès de la photo inaugurale du club (février 1967) visible ci-contre.

On Friday, the Association unveiled the theme of their forthcoming exhibition, scheduled to run from 13 September to 17 December 2026.

To mark the centenary of his birth, celebrated on June 2nd, the event will pay tribute to Chiyonoyama, the 41st yokozuna. Visitors will be able to view an exceptional collection of items that belonged to the champion:

• His personal belongings: a set of three kesho-mawashi used for his dohyo-iri, together with his carrying case (akeni).

• A historical archive: A photograph from February 1953 illustrating "the era of the Five Great Ones", in which Chiyonoyama appears alongside Haguroyama (Y36), Terukuni (Y38, who had just retired), Azumafuji (Y40) and Kagamisato (Y42, who had recently been promoted).

• The key document: his letter of recommendation for the supreme title in May 1951.

The exhibition will also highlight the legacy of the founder of the Kokonoe-beya. The ceremonial aprons of his most illustrious disciples, Kitanofuji (Y52) and Chiyonofuji (Y58), will be on display alongside the stable’s inaugural photograph (February 1967, photo 2).
