The Association announced the death of former ozeki Masuiyama II
On a appris dans la matinée le décès de l’ancien directeur Mihogaseki à l’âge de 76 ans.
On se souvient de ses années sekitori comme le rikishi le plus âgé à atteindre le grade d’ozeki (31 ans en 1980) depuis le passage aux six tournois annuels en 1958. C’est aussi la première fois de l’histoire qu’on voyait la connexion père-fils comme ozeki.
À sa retraite en 1981, il devient instructeur (Onogawa-oyakata) et prend la tête du club Mihogaseki en 1984. Il formera alors plusieurs grands noms du sumo, comme les actuels Kise-oyakata (fka M1 Higonoumi) et Onoe-oyakata (fka komusubi Hamanoshima), ou les anciens rikishi étrangers Baruto et Aran.
En 2013, il transfère toute son équipe chez Kasugano-beya avant de quitter définitivement l’Association pour se consacrer pleinement à la musique : il était chanteur d’enka depuis 1974.

In the morning, we learned the death of the former director Mihogaseki at the age of 76.
His sekitori years are remembered as the oldest rikishi to reach the rank of ozeki (31 in 1980) since the switch to six annual tournaments in 1958. It was also the first time in history that the father-son connection as ozeki was seen.
Upon his retirement in 1981, he became an instructor (Onogawa-oyakata) then took the head of the Mihogaseki stable in 1984. He trained several big names in sumo, such as the current Kise-oyakata (fka M1 Higonoumi) and Onoe-oyakata (fka komusubi Hamanoshima), or the former foreign rikishi Baruto and Aran.
In 2013, he transferred his entire team to Kasugano-beya before leaving the Association to devote himself fully to music: he had been an enka singer since 1974.
