En Makkuchi, on assistait aujourd'hui à la rencontre entre deux ancoens ozeki. Kirishima surpasse Shodai et prend l'avantage 12-10 dans leur rivalité. Après son kinboshi de mardi, Yoshinofuji prive maintenant Aonishiki d'une place précieuse sur la plus haute marche du podium provisoire.
Chez les san'yaku, Kotozakura célèbre son vingt-huitième anniversaire en déstabilisant Oshoma dès le tachi-ai. Hoshoryu conserve sa férocité en écrasant Oho avant que Takanosho tire Onosato pour laisser le yokozuna à plat ventre sur le dohyo !
